service provider

I just got off the phone with my internet service provider. I spent 2 hours on the phone because I am being charged for an account that I never opened in the first place...And my ISP has been billing me for it for over 3 months now. I did not find this out from my ISP (after all, why would they inform me that they're not recieving payment for an account that I supposedly have with them), I found out from my BANK!!! I guess, in effect, i've been billed for 2 seperate accounts with my ISP this whole time. And, while they credited SOME of the money back to my account, they've left me holding the bag for more of it ( they're not allowed to credit more than two months back to me). To make up for the payments (and interest) that i'll now be paying my bank, they offered to give me 2 free months on the account that i never had to begin with!!!! YEAH...Right...
So if anyone out there has any suggestions for good, dependable ISP's, could ya fill me in? i don't think i'll be hanging around on "3 letter initials" after i've paid for my time...

I experienced a similar problem with one of the "links" ISPs. I never had an account with them but they bought out the little prepaid service I utilized. After the pre-paid service term ended, and I signed on with a different ISP, I began receiving this huge bill from the "link", I ignored that and then began to get nasty collection calls. Finally I explained that I never contracted for their service and notified them they they could only contact me by mail, and to never call me again.
No calls as of late, but I'm sure I'll end up with a collection on my credit report.
